Join us for the first Unsung Live of 2017! We return to The Star of Kings for our seventh evening of storytelling for fans of the best in contemporary speculative fiction. Reading this time:

• Courttia Newland is the author of seven works of fiction including his debut, The Scholar. His latest novel, The Gospel According to Cane, was published in 2013 and has been optioned by Cowboy Films. His work has been nominated for the Impac Dublin Literary Award, The Frank O’ Conner award, The CWA Dagger in the Library Award, The Hurston/Wright Legacy Award and The Theatre 503 Award for playwriting as well as numerous others. Short stories have appeared in many anthologies and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. A forthcoming story, 'Reversible', is included in the Faber anthology Sex and Death. He is associate lecturer in creative writing at the University of Westminster and is completing a PhD in creative writing. @courttianewland

• E.J. Swift is the author of The Osiris Project trilogy, a speculative fiction series set in a world radically altered by climate change, comprising OsirisCataveiro and Tamaruq. Her short fiction has appeared in anthologies including The Best British Fantasy (Salt Publishing, 2013 and 2014) and the digital book Strata (Penguin Random House, 2016). Swift was shortlisted for a 2013 BSFA Award in the Short Fiction category for her story “Saga’s Children” (The Lowest Heaven, Jurassic) and was longlisted for the 2015 Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award for “The Spiders of Stockholm” (Irregularity, Jurassic). @Catamaroon

• Jamie Sawyer was born in 1979 in Newbury, Berkshire. He studied law at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, acquiring a master's degree in human rights and surveillance law. Jamie is a full-time barrister, practising in criminal law. When he isn't working in law or writing, Jamie enjoys spending time with his family in Essex. He is an enthusiastic reader of all types of SF, especially classic authors such as Heinlein and Haldeman.
